Donebauer’s
early work and inspiration was through film, but video became his
primary medium once it was invented. Several of the early video works
from the Royal College of Art days are lost as they were recorded on a
long obsolete videotape format.
There are
some monochrome "sketches" done as a first exploration of
audio/video parallels using pre-recorded music and shot on a Sony Portapack
(1973).
